Impact of Racism on the Social Determinants of Health through interpersonal social and institutional level contact

Examples  – housing, education, green spaces, wage “gaps”, maternal mortality, teenage mental illness

Response to disparities at the individual grassroot and establishment level – from denial to culture wars to abandoned recommendations Black Report etc Angus Deayton report and recommendations latest.

Solutions: change in culture about what constitutes “the economy”

More open transparent and less unequal society

Implementation of recommendations by major reports on health disparities

Health impact to be incorporated into major policy decisions, not just financial.

Recruitment and volunteering for research studies should include more varied subjects

Nigerian diaspora individual actions weight loss , less salt intake more exercise, no smoking etc

Pay attention to prostate – age family history and breast cancer risk profile and attend screening.

Consider impact of individual and government decisions e.g cuts in education, green spaces on the health of future  generations.

Societal cohesion and justice based on eliminating avoidable health inequalities.
